Inspection of Pink Line elevated section from Oct 6 to 8
The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) is expected to carry out the statutory safety inspection of Bengaluru’s Pink Line metro between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere from October 6 to 8, a key step toward opening the newly built elevated section to passengers.
Overview
The inspection will cover a 7.5-km elevated stretch of the Pink Line, part of the corridor’s Reach 6. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) submitted a formal application for the statutory inspection on September 18, seeking clearance to begin commercial operations on the section.
Inspection schedule and scope
According to officials, V. Venkatasubramanian, Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety, Southern Circle, is likely to lead the multi-day inspection. The review will assess whether the infrastructure, systems and operations on the Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere stretch meet the safety standards required for passenger services.
The process is expected to include checks at the Operations Control Centre (OCC) and follow speed trials that have already been conducted on the line. These statutory inspections typically evaluate track and civil works, signalling and train control, electrical and traction systems, station readiness, evacuation routes and emergency protocols.
Next steps
If the CMRS grants the mandatory safety clearance, BMRCL can proceed with preparations to open the elevated section for commercial passenger operations. Such preparations usually include final operational validations, staff deployment, and public information measures before announcing an opening date.
Project context
The Pink Line spans 21.3 km and has missed several earlier deadlines. It comprises a 7.5-km elevated section and a 13.8-km underground stretch. The underground corridor will connect key areas including Dairy Circle, M.G. Road, Shivajinagar and Tannery Road, providing a north–south metro link through central Bengaluru.
