Coal India Production Rises 9.2% in September

Coal India production up 9.2% in September

Coal India Ltd. reported a 9.2% year-on-year rise in production to 53.5 million tonnes (MT) in September, while overall supplies climbed 12.5% to 61.2 MT, underscoring steady operational momentum at the state-owned miner.

Output and dispatches improve

The company said its September performance reflected stronger mining activity and improved offtake. Total supplies during the month reached 61.2 MT, outpacing production growth and indicating firm demand conditions across consuming sectors.

Sector-wise supplies

Deliveries to the power sector—Coal India’s largest consumer—rose 10.6% year-on-year to 48.9 MT in September. Supplies to the non-regulated sector increased by 19.4% over the same period, the company said. The non-regulated segment broadly comprises industries outside the electricity sector that procure coal through market-linked channels.

FY27 targets reaffirmed

Coal India stated that sustained operational momentum has strengthened its confidence in achieving its medium-term goals. The miner reaffirmed its FY27 production target of 815 MT and a supply target of 850 MT, indicating continued capacity expansion and logistics readiness to meet growing demand.

Seasonal tailwinds seen post-monsoon

With the monsoon season over, the company expects both production and supplies to pick up further in the coming months. Seasonal easing typically allows for better mine access and transportation, supporting higher output and dispatches.

Outlook

The September figures highlight resilient demand from the power sector and a notable uptick in non-regulated sector offtake. As operations normalize post-monsoon, Coal India anticipates maintaining its current pace, keeping it on track toward its stated FY27 milestones.
