Wipro Circle in Hyderabad’s Financial District to be renamed Dr. Manmohan Singh Circle
The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Monday approved renaming Wipro Circle in Hyderabad’s Financial District as Dr. Manmohan Singh Circle, extending the city’s recent efforts to honour the former Prime Minister. The body also cleared a proposal to name an adjacent public space developed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) as Dr. Manmohan Singh Memorial Park, where a statue of the former Prime Minister was unveiled recently by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
Background
The decision follows the recent naming of the Aramghar–Zoo Park flyover after Dr. Manmohan Singh. Monday’s resolutions emerged from the CMC’s 8th Ordinary Meeting held on October 5, with the renaming approved under Section 137 of the Core Urban Region (Integrated Governance) Act, 2026.
Key Civic Decisions from the CMC Meeting
Renaming of Wipro Circle and Park
The CMC approved renaming the existing Wipro Circle as Dr. Manmohan Singh Circle. In a related move, the Corporation cleared the naming of the adjacent 2.97-acre HMDA-developed park as Dr. Manmohan Singh Memorial Park. The statue of the former Prime Minister at the site was unveiled recently by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, aligning with the city’s broader commemorative initiatives.
Lakefront Development SPV for Durgam Cheruvu
In a significant urban development measure, the CMC approved the formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) — the Durgam Cheruvu Lakefront Development Company (DCDC) — for the integrated development and rejuvenation of the Durgam Cheruvu lakefront. Approximately 140 acres around the lake have been identified for the proposed works. The proposal will be sent to the government for consideration and necessary approvals.
Infrastructure and Urban Upgrades
Drainage and Flood Mitigation under SNDP
Under the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP), the CMC sanctioned a ₹5.95 crore project to construct the remaining stretch of a box drain from Trendz Junior to Vashinavi Pride Apartment. This new segment will connect to the existing box drain linked to the Gaffor Nagar junction–Durgam Cheruvu entry plaza project, aiming to improve stormwater management and reduce flooding risks.
Administrative and Road Infrastructure
The Corporation approved the construction of a new Gajularamaram Circle office building beside Oxygen Park on Lalsabguda Road, estimated at ₹5.18 crore.
It also cleared the development of a model road from the Hindu–Muslim Graveyard to Allwyn Colony Circle Border in Allwyn Colony. The project, estimated at ₹2.95 crore, is intended to serve as a standard for future road upgrades in the area.
Chintal Kunta Lake Rejuvenation
A major ecological initiative was approved for Chintal Kunta Lake, with ₹21.59 crore earmarked for comprehensive rejuvenation. The plan includes desilting, embankment protection, water quality restoration, and construction of a box drain connecting to Narlakunta Lake through Shuraksha Meadows Colony in Bahadurpally.
Additional Items Cleared with Chair’s Permission
CSR-backed Sports Infrastructure at Gachibowli
Arcesium India Private Limited will develop a box cricket sports arena near the PJR Flyover at Gachibowli Junction under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The approval includes directional signage near the flyover and branding signages at the facility bearing the CSR logo.
Road Project in Ameenpur Municipality
The CMC approved laying a BT (bituminous) road from Bandamkommu to Lalabai Colony in Ameenpur Municipality. The project — tied to the erstwhile Ameenpur and Bollaram municipalities that have since been merged into the CMC — will be undertaken with TUFIDC loan assistance. Estimated in two parts at over ₹5 crore, the work is subject to funding availability and adherence to applicable rules, regulations and financial procedures.
What’s Next
The renaming proposals and infrastructure approvals will now proceed through the requisite administrative channels, including the government’s consideration of the Durgam Cheruvu lakefront SPV. The CMC’s decisions collectively aim to enhance civic infrastructure, public amenities and environmental resilience while commemorating national leadership.
