Free Ayurvedic camp held at Andhra University’s Yoga Village
The Department of Yoga and Consciousness at Andhra University hosted a free Ayurvedic medical camp at Yoga Village on Beach Road in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, providing morning consultations and medicines at no cost to attendees between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Monthly outreach led by retired KGH doctor
The camp was conducted by Dr. K. Eswara Rao, a retired Senior Medical Officer from King George Hospital (KGH). Dr. Rao examined patients and distributed Ayurvedic medicines free of charge. He noted that he has been holding the camp on the first Sunday of every month since 2022.
Emphasis on integrating Yoga and Ayurveda
Highlighting the preventive potential of traditional systems, Dr. Rao said, “The combination of Yoga and Ayurveda can prevent 80% of primary diseases.” He observed that psychiatric issues and lifestyle-related disorders, including diabetes, obesity, gastritis and polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), are on the rise and, in his view, “they could be overcome through ayurveda.”
Support from the university
Dr. Rao credited the Department of Yoga and Consciousness for its cooperation in facilitating the camp. He added that he regularly engages with the department as a guest faculty member to speak on the connection between Yoga and Ayurveda.
Call for informed guidance
Stressing the importance of expert advice in traditional medicine, Dr. Rao said his goal at the camp is to offer proper guidance and prescribe appropriate Ayurvedic treatments. He cautioned that people who rely on social media for medical recommendations are often being led to unsuitable remedies and, as a result, are forming a mistaken impression of Ayurveda.
Community-focused care
The initiative reflects a continuing effort to make Ayurvedic care accessible while promoting integrated wellness practices. With the department’s support and Dr. Rao’s monthly outreach, the camp provides a regular platform for community members seeking preventive and therapeutic guidance grounded in Yoga and Ayurveda.
