Kannur Dussehra to conclude with 500-drone spectacle
The Kannur Corporation will close this year’s Kannur Dussehra with a large-scale drone spectacle featuring more than 500 drones, set to light up the skies over the Kannur Collectorate ground on the festival’s concluding day. The festival runs from October 12 to 21.
First-of-its-kind civic initiative in Kerala
According to the Corporation, this is the first time a civic body in Kerala is mounting a drone show of this magnitude as part of a festival. The production is designed as a centrepiece finale to the 10-day celebration, underscoring the city’s push to blend technology with cultural showcase.
What the audience can expect
The approximately 15-minute programme will feature illuminated aerial formations that pay tribute to Kerala’s major art and cultural traditions, including Theyyam and Kathakali. The choreography will also form images of Kannur’s signature landmarks, notably the Kannur Lighthouse and the historic St. Angelo Fort, offering a visual narrative of the region’s heritage.
Specialised international team to execute show
A specialised team from abroad has been engaged to execute the drone show, the Corporation said. The collaboration is intended to ensure precision, safety, and high production value for the large-scale aerial display.
Budget and logistics
The estimated cost of the event is around ₹20 lakh. The Kannur Collectorate ground will serve as the venue for the festival and the final-day spectacle, providing the space necessary for staging and safe flight operations.
