SIT set to file chargesheet in ‘Gem Granites’ Veeramani POCSO case
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the POCSO case against “Gem Granites” Veeramani is likely to file its chargesheet before the Special Court for POCSO cases next week, according to police sources.
Background of the case
The case was first registered in October 2025 after a child rights activist lodged a complaint upon receiving a pen drive from an unidentified person. The device allegedly contained a video purportedly showing Veeramani sexually assaulting a minor girl. Investigators initially filed a closure report, citing difficulties in identifying the child seen in the video. The Special POCSO Court, however, rejected the closure report and directed police to conduct further investigation.
Reinvestigation and arrests
Following the court’s directive, the case was reinvestigated. During this phase, police arrested Veeramani, 84, along with alleged abettors Shanthi, 60, and her husband, Mahendra Simhan, 63. Another accused, Ganesh—described as having worked as an assistant with Gem Granites for 23 years—was also arrested. Police said they were able to identify the victim depicted in the video during the reinvestigation, and additional victims subsequently came forward to lodge complaints.
SIT’s formation and probe steps
On September 24, a Special Investigation Team was constituted under Additional Commissioner P. C. Thenmozhi to carry forward the probe into the case and related matters. As part of its investigation, the SIT recorded the survivors’ statements before a judicial magistrate and collected statements from the parents of the victim referenced in the initial video. Investigators also gathered other documents and material deemed relevant to the case, police sources said.
Chargesheet expected next week
With much of the evidence-gathering phase completed, the SIT is now finalizing procedural requirements ahead of filing the chargesheet in the Special POCSO Court. The filing is expected next week, according to officials familiar with the development.
Further court proceedings will follow the submission of the chargesheet. Police sources indicated that the SIT’s compilation reflects the reinvestigation’s findings, including the identification of the victim in the circulated video and the statements recorded from survivors and family members.
The charges, once filed, will formally place the case before the Special POCSO Court for trial.
