Sensex Rebounds 190 Points in Early Trade After Two-Day Losing Streak

Sensex rises 190 points in early trade after two days of losses

Benchmark equity indices rebounded in early trade on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, as easing crude oil pressures and buying in heavyweight information technology stocks helped lift sentiment after two straight sessions of declines.

Indices edge higher at the open

The 30-share BSE Sensex advanced 190 points to 72,733.04 in early deals. The broader 50-share NSE Nifty rose 22 points to 22,735.20, retracing part of Tuesday’s losses amid renewed interest in select blue-chip counters.

Top movers

From the 30 Sensex firms, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, InterGlobe Aviation, ICICI Bank, and Trent were among the major winners in early trade, providing support to the indices. On the downside, Adani Ports, HDFC Bank, Sun Pharma, and NTPC were among the laggards.

Oil prices and sentiment

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, traded 0.68% higher at $103.3 per barrel in early Asian hours. Despite the uptick, traders pointed to a recent pullback in crude prices as a key relief factor for domestic equities.

“Indian equities are likely to find some relief at the open as a sharp pullback in crude oil prices eases one of the key pressures that has weighed on domestic markets in recent sessions,” said Ponmudi R., CEO of Enrich Money, an online trading and wealth-tech firm. The moderation in oil prices, however, comes “against a backdrop of continued uncertainty over the U.S.-Iran conflict and the outlook for regional energy supplies,” he added.

Global cues mixed

Across Asia, markets offered a mixed handover. South Korea’s KOSPI and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index traded lower, while Shanghai’s SSE Composite index and Japan’s Nikkei 225 posted marginal gains. U.S. markets ended lower on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, adding to the cautious global backdrop.

Flows and the previous session

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth ₹9,980.22 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data, extending the bout of foreign outflows that has pressured local markets in recent sessions.

On Tuesday, the Sensex fell 242.65 points, or 0.33%, to close at 72,529.07, while the Nifty slipped 64.05 points, or 0.28%, to end at 22,716.20.

Outlook

Early gains on Wednesday reflect the boost from easing crude oil pressures and buying in select blue-chip stocks. However, with global markets mixed, continued FII selling, and uncertainty around geopolitical developments affecting energy markets, traders remain watchful of incoming cues through the day.
