DMK MP Raises Concerns Over Amendments to FCRA
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Member of Parliament (MP) A. Raja has expressed serious concerns regarding the recent amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA). In a statement, Raja emphasized that these changes may significantly hinder the functioning of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and social service groups in India.
Raja highlighted that the amendments impose stricter regulations on the receipt and utilization of foreign funds by NGOs, which could lead to a substantial reduction in their operational capabilities. He warned that such restrictions might adversely affect various sectors, including education, health care, and rural development, where many NGOs play a crucial role.
The DMK MP’s remarks come in the wake of increasing scrutiny and control over foreign contributions, which has sparked a debate on governmental oversight and civil society’s freedom to operate. Raja called for a reassessment of the amendments, urging the government to engage in dialogue with stakeholders to ensure that the rights of NGOs are protected while maintaining accountability.
