A.P. schools must emerge as role models for education, says Samagra Shiksha Director
Andhra Pradesh Samagra Shiksha Project Director B. Srinivasa Rao on Monday called for schools across the State to “emerge as role models for comprehensive education” in the country, underscoring that a safe and joyful learning environment is essential to nurture students into responsible citizens. He was speaking on October 5, 2026, as chief guest at the inaugural of a three-day residential Yoga Training Programme for teachers of PM SHRI schools in Andhra Pradesh.
Focus on holistic learning
Addressing participants at Kanha Shanti Vanam in Hyderabad, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that strengthening the culture of holistic education in schools must include sustained attention to students’ physical and mental well-being. He highlighted the role of teachers in creating school environments where learning is engaging, secure and inclusive, and where students are encouraged to build positive habits that support both academic and personal growth.
Statewide yoga training for PM SHRI teachers
The programme, which runs through October 7, brings together 1,870 teachers—two from each of the 935 PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) across Andhra Pradesh—for structured residential training. Mr. Srinivasa Rao said these teachers are being equipped to integrate yoga into their daily school routines, reflecting the State’s emphasis on all-round development.
Emphasis on student well-being
Mr. Srinivasa Rao urged teachers to encourage regular yoga practice among students, noting its benefits for physical health, improved concentration and mental resilience. “It is the responsibility of teachers to make yoga a part of their everyday routine,” he said, adding that consistent exposure can help students cultivate focus, balance and emotional strength that support better learning outcomes.
Organisers and certification
The training is being jointly organised by Samagra Shiksha, Andhra Pradesh, and the Heartfulness Education Trust, Hyderabad. Upon completion, participating teachers will receive certificates identifying them as “Lead Teachers for Yoga” in their respective schools, positioning them to guide colleagues and students in adopting regular practice.
Significance for schools in A.P.
By placing teacher capacity-building at the centre of this initiative, the programme aims to seed consistent, school-level practices that support students’ holistic development. The Director’s call for schools to become exemplars of comprehensive education situates well-being and joyful learning as integral to the State’s approach, with yoga instruction as a practical tool that teachers can deploy every day.
The three-day training is expected to help standardise approaches across PM SHRI schools in Andhra Pradesh, reinforcing the message that safe, supportive and engaging classrooms are key to shaping responsible, confident citizens.
