Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president K. Kavitha on Monday accused the Congress government in Telangana of playing politics over the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) instead of addressing farmers’ irrigation needs, after inspecting withered crops at Maqdumpur village near Karimnagar on October 19, 2026, according to The Hindu.
Speaking to the media at the site, she attributed the crop damage to a lack of irrigation water and urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to take immediate steps to protect farmers’ interests. She alleged that no government official had visited the village to assess the losses.
“Regardless whether the Kaleshwaram project has failed or passed, is it not the government’s responsibility to help farmers? Constructing a small cofferdam across the Pranahita river could stabilise irrigation across 35 lakh to 40 lakh acres,” Ms. Kavitha said.
Ms. Kavitha demanded a 24-hour power supply for agriculture, lifting of water for irrigation and a statewide assessment of crop damage. She pressed the State government to prioritise immediate relief and measures to stabilise irrigation for affected areas.
