Police have traced a government schoolteacher from Thottilpalam in Kozhikode, who had been missing since October 5, to Pudussery in Palakkad district along with a Vadakara native identified as Abdul Samad. Both were taken into custody for questioning on October 17, according to The Hindu.
A team led by Thottilpalam Sub-Inspector C.P. Suhail detained the two, who were reportedly staying in a rented house and presenting themselves as husband and wife.
The woman’s disappearance came to light after her family approached the police, and, with no progress for more than a week, moved the Kerala High Court seeking action.
Investigators tracked the pair using digital leads, including information that Samad had used multiple mobile connections. Police found he had operated seven SIM cards, and the two had allegedly communicated via WhatsApp using Wi-Fi from other people’s phones.
The teacher had earlier received public attention about a decade ago after developing a serious liver condition while pregnant. Her husband donated part of his liver for a transplant that was supported by a public fundraising campaign. She later entered government service after qualifying in a Public Service Commission examination.
Police sources said Samad has been involved in a few criminal cases, including assault, and is suspected of deceiving the woman for financial gain. They said the case would be probed in detail to establish the facts.
