Police in Kerala have traced a government schoolteacher who went missing from Thottilpalam in Kozhikode on October 5 to Pudussery in Palakkad district and took her and a Vadakara native, Abdul Samad, into custody for questioning on October 17, according to The Hindu’s reporting.
A team led by Thottilpalam Sub Inspector C.P. Suhail detained the pair from a rented house where they had allegedly been posing as husband and wife. The woman’s disappearance was reported after her family approached the police, and they later moved the Kerala High Court when she remained untraceable for more than a week.
Investigators said they tracked the two using digital clues, including Samad’s use of multiple SIM cards. Police sources cited in the report said Samad had used seven SIM cards and that the pair allegedly communicated via WhatsApp using Wi-Fi connections obtained from other people’s phones.
The woman had come to public attention about a decade ago after developing a serious liver condition during pregnancy. Her husband donated part of his liver for a transplant that was supported by a public fundraising drive. She subsequently entered government service after qualifying in a Public Service Commission examination.
Police sources said Samad has been involved in a few criminal cases, including assault, and he is suspected of deceiving the woman for financial gain. Officers said the case would be probed in detail to establish the facts.
