Nara Bhuvaneswari inaugurates NTR Memorial Trust Blood Bank in Vijayawada
NTR Memorial Trust (NMT) managing trustee Nara Bhuvaneswari on Friday inaugurated the NTR Memorial Trust Blood Bank in Vijayawada, marking a fresh addition to the Trust’s healthcare initiatives in Andhra Pradesh. She underscored the importance of voluntary blood donation and described the Trust as a symbol of service, trust and reassurance for the people.
Focus on service and public welfare
Speaking at the inauguration, Ms. Bhuvaneswari called blood donation a noble act that every healthy individual should consider to help save lives. She recalled the vision of former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao, noting that he had a deep love for people and regarded public welfare as central to his life’s work. His goal, she said, was to improve the living standards of ordinary citizens and ensure that even the most marginalized in society had access to a better life.
Expanding healthcare network
The NTR Memorial Trust currently operates blood banks in Guntur, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Rajamahendravaram. Beyond blood banking, the Trust runs programmes across multiple sectors, including healthcare, education, women’s empowerment, livelihood support and access to safe drinking water. The new facility in Vijayawada adds to this network, aiming to improve the availability of safe blood and strengthen medical support across the region.
Support for children with thalassemia
Expressing concern over the day-to-day challenges faced by children with thalassemia—who require regular blood transfusions—Ms. Bhuvaneswari highlighted the anxiety many families face in securing safe and timely treatment. She said that, keeping these needs in view, the Trust launched a programme in Hyderabad in 2025 to provide free blood to children with thalassemia through its Thalassemia Care Centre.
Building on that initiative, she announced that a similar facility would be established in Vijayawada as well, aiming to reduce the burden on affected families and improve continuity of care for young patients who depend on regular transfusions.
Looking ahead
The inauguration of the Vijayawada blood bank reinforces NMT’s push to make essential healthcare services more accessible across Andhra Pradesh. With its existing network and the planned expansion of thalassemia care, the Trust is positioning itself to address both immediate and long-term needs in blood services. Ms. Bhuvaneswari encouraged eligible donors to come forward, noting that sustained community participation is vital to meeting demand and saving lives.
