Tirupati, October 4, 2026: The Tirupati police on Sunday recovered 24 stolen motorcycles valued at approximately ₹25 lakh and arrested three suspects alleged to be involved in a cross-border vehicle theft racket operating across Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Crackdown led by Tirupati West police
Acting on instructions from Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu, the Tirupati West police, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) M. Bhaktavatsalam, conducted a series of coordinated raids that culminated in the arrests and seizures. Police said the operation was part of an intensified drive targeting repeat offenders linked to vehicle thefts reported in the region and neighbouring states.
Arrests and recoveries
The police arrested three men — Areddula Vinod Kumar (32), Cherlopalli Govindarajulu (34) and Govindaswamy Murali (30) — and recovered 24 motorcycles suspected to have been stolen from various locations in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. According to officials, the trio are regular offenders with multiple cases registered against them: 21, 14 and 17 respectively.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) K. Ravi Manoharachary and Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) A. Srinivasulu said at a media briefing that nine of the recovered vehicles have already been linked to cases registered in different police stations. Details for the remaining 15 motorcycles are being gathered and collated to establish case linkages and verify ownership.
Statements and on-ground review
Addressing the media in Tirupati, ASPs Ravi Manoharachary and Srinivasulu outlined the progress of the investigation and confirmed that the suspects have been taken into custody. Earlier in the day, ASP Ravi Manoharachary inspected the lineup of recovered motorcycles.
Next steps in the investigation
Police said efforts are underway to comprehensively map each recovered vehicle to existing complaints and FIRs across the three states. Once verification is complete, further legal action will follow in coordination with the concerned police stations.
Significance
The arrests and recoveries highlight the ongoing focus of Tirupati police on curbing vehicle thefts and tracking inter-state networks of habitual offenders. Officials indicated that the operation would be followed by continued enforcement to deter similar crimes in the region.
