Hiriyara Jaatre: Bengalurus Annual Elders Festival on Oct 4

Annual elders’ fest Hiriyara Jaatre in Bengaluru on Oct. 4

V The Volunteers (VTVO), through its Elders’ Adda Cause initiative, has announced Hiriyara Jaatre 2026, the annual festival dedicated to senior citizens in Bengaluru, to be held on Sunday, October 4.

About the event

Launched in 2017, Hiriyara Jaatre brings together residents of old-age homes from across the city for a day dedicated to games, sports, entertainment, and cultural performances. The event is designed to place elders at the heart of the festivities, offering an environment that celebrates participation and community.

Participation and support

According to the organisers, this year’s edition will see 800 senior citizens from 40 old-age homes across Bengaluru come together on Sunday. They will be supported by more than 800 volunteers throughout the day.

“For one day, the elders are not spectators. They are the participants, performers, competitors, and centre of the celebration,” the organisers said.

Venue and schedule

The festivities will take place at New Horizon Gurukul School in Kadubeesanahalli. Activities are scheduled to start at 7 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m.

Background

Since its inception in 2017, Hiriyara Jaatre has aimed to create an inclusive, engaging platform for seniors, particularly those living in institutional care, to spend a day in active celebration. Over the years, the initiative has brought together large groups of elders with the support of volunteers and community organisations, building a citywide effort around dignity, participation, and joy for older adults.

What to expect

The one-day programme will feature a mix of recreational and cultural activities, with opportunities for elders to perform, compete, and engage in shared experiences. Organisers emphasise that the focus remains firmly on participation and celebration, with volunteers on hand to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for all attendees.

Hiriyara Jaatre 2026 continues the tradition of centring elders in a day of community, activity, and recognition in Bengaluru.
