BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran on Tuesday criticised the TVK-led government in Tamil Nadu over the alleged suicide of an undertrial who had been admitted to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital while in police custody, according to The Hindu.
Nagenthran demanded stringent action against the police personnel linked to the incident and questioned custodial supervision. “The suicide of an undertrial, who was taken to the court and who was in police custody, has raised several doubts. Why was there a failure in monitoring the individual who was in the police custody round the clock?” he said, as reported by The Hindu.
He also faulted Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s administration of the police force, alleging inadequate safety for those in custody and a deterioration in law and order.
Help is available for those experiencing suicidal thoughts on the State health helpline 104 and Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline at 044-2464 0050.
