Hindu Mahaganpati immersed after 21-day festival in Kalaburagi
A 21-day celebration of the Hindu Mahaganpati festival in Kalaburagi concluded on Sunday with the ceremonial immersion of the idol at S.B. Lake, following a colourful and devotional procession through the city. The annual observance was organised by the Hindu Mahaganpati Utsav Samiti.
Immersion marks culmination of 21-day festivities
The concluding day’s events began with special prayers and religious rituals at a venue near the historic Kalaburagi Fort. Seers, public representatives and leaders from various organisations joined devotees to accompany the idol in procession to the immersion point.
The immersion at S.B. Lake marked the formal close of this year’s Mahaganpati Utsav, bringing weeks of daily worship, cultural programmes and community participation to a solemn and celebratory end.
Procession winds through city thoroughfares
From the starting point near Kalaburagi Fort, the procession made its way along a designated route, passing Humnabad Base, Kirana Bazar, Chowk Police Station, Cloth Bazar, Super Market and Jagat Circle before arriving at S.B. Lake for the immersion ceremony.
Cultural performances energise the celebration
Traditional and devotional performances added vibrancy throughout the route. Troupes presented dollu kunitha and thamate, while ensembles playing Solapur dhol and dhol–tasha set the rhythm for the march. Puppet shows and other devotional performances further enriched the cultural atmosphere.
Young participants danced to the beats of the drums, and women and children offered flowers and prayers to the deity as the procession advanced, underscoring the broad community involvement that characterises the festival each year.
