The first rehearsal for Jamboo Savari, the climactic Mysuru Dasara procession, was held on the Mysuru Palace premises on Sunday, featuring participating elephants and police personnel ahead of the October 21 grand finale, The Hindu reported.
The run-through included a demonstration of the flower-showering ritual on the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari, seated in the golden howdah on the lead elephant. Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, joined by forest and police officials, practised the ritual from the elevated rostrum in front of the palace, according to The Hindu.
Latkar said the exercise was aimed at ensuring synchronisation and coordination during the finale, adding that the positions assumed in rehearsal would be maintained in the actual procession. “We organised this to ensure that everything is synchronised and well coordinated,” she said.
She said the second phase of security arrangements for the finale has been activated, with nearly 23 Superintendents of Police and more than 6,000 personnel, including Karnataka State Reserve Police and Home Guards, deployed. The first phase covered the drone and air shows, while the second phase will be in force on October 20 and 21.
Latkar added that a tableau of the Indian Army will join this year’s procession. She said details of the dignitaries expected to visit Mysuru for the grand finale would be communicated later.
