Two furniture shops gutted in early-morning blaze near Medchal checkpost

A major fire broke out at two adjoining furniture shops near the Medchal checkpost in the early hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026, destroying a large quantity of furniture and other materials stored inside. No injuries or casualties were reported.

How the fire unfolded

The Fire Department received an emergency call at 1:22 a.m. Thick smoke emanating from the shops alerted nearby residents and passers-by, who notified the fire control room. The blaze is suspected to have started in one of the furniture outlets before rapidly spreading to the adjoining establishment.

Firefighting response

Two fire tenders—one each from the Shamirpet and Jeedimetla fire stations—were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters battled the flames for about an hour before bringing the situation under control. Their swift response ensured that the fire was contained to the two affected shops.

Damage assessment

According to officials at the scene, a substantial stock of furniture and other goods kept inside the shops was destroyed. The extent of the loss is yet to be quantified, and an official valuation of the damage had not been completed at the time of reporting.

Preliminary cause and investigation

Police reached the location and initiated an inquiry into the incident. Early indications suggest that an electrical short circuit could have triggered the fire. However, the exact cause has not yet been established and will be determined following a joint assessment by police and fire officials.

What’s next

Authorities are expected to continue their investigation to confirm the source of the blaze and to assess the financial impact on the affected businesses. Further details are awaited from the Fire Department and police as inquiries progress.

The incident underscores the potential risks posed by electrical faults in commercial establishments and the importance of early detection and rapid emergency response in preventing loss of life.
