The Keralam government has constituted an ‘AgriStack Commissionerate’ under the State Agriculture department to implement the Union Agriculture Ministry’s AgriStack initiative in the State’s farm sector, according to an order dated October 13. The Director, Agriculture, will serve as the AgriStack Commissioner in the new four-level structure.
AgriStack, implemented under the Digital Agriculture Mission, will comprise three core registries: the Farmers Registry, the Crop Sown Registry, and the Geo-referenced Village Maps Registry. “It forms the digital foundation for delivering farmer-centric services, improving governance efficiency, and promoting innovation, with the objective of establishing a federated and unified digital ecosystem for the agriculture sector,” the State government said in the October 13 order.
In July, the State created an 11-member State AgriStack Data Governance Committee (SADGC) headed by the Chief Secretary to serve as the institutional architecture for managing key farm-sector data, The Hindu reported. The panel was set up in line with operational guidelines issued by the Union government to States and Union Territories in September 2025 to enable full State ownership of the AgriStack operational backbone under the ‘State Core Handover Support’ programme.
