Silver Jewellery Worth ₹5 Lakh Stolen in Shop Burglary

Silver jewellery worth ₹5 lakh stolen from shop in Kuthuparamba

Silver ornaments weighing about two kilograms and valued at roughly ₹5 lakh were reported stolen from a shop on the upper floor of the Prakash Jewellery building at Gokulatheru in Kuthuparamba. The theft is believed to have taken place overnight between 8 p.m. on October 4 and 8.30 a.m. on October 5.

Incident and discovery

The break-in came to light when shop owner Ratheesh Gyakkavad, 36, arrived to open the premises on Monday morning, October 5. On reaching the shop, he found the shutter lock broken and discovered that the silver items were missing. He immediately alerted the police.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the missing jewellery is valued at approximately ₹5 lakh. Mr. Ratheesh said the silver had been sourced from multiple jewellery establishments and brought to his shop for purification, a routine process carried out for clients before items are returned to their respective stores or customers.

Police response and initial probe

A team from the Kuthuparamba police station reached the site shortly after being informed and began an investigation. Officers called in a police dog squad and forensic experts to examine the scene. The team inspected entry points, collected samples, and looked for telltale signs such as tool marks and footprints that could indicate how the intruders gained access.

Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to trace movements in and around the building during the suspected time window. Police said they are assessing all available physical and digital evidence to establish the sequence of events and identify potential suspects.

Case registered

The police have registered a case under Sections 331(4), 305(a) and 329(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. While details of the alleged offences corresponding to these sections were not disclosed, officers said the registration enables a comprehensive probe into the break-in and theft.

Ongoing investigation

As the inquiry proceeds, the police are verifying the timeline provided in the complaint and cross-checking the origin and movement of the silver consignments brought in for purification. The premises, located on the upper floor of a commercial building, are being examined to understand whether the culprits had prior knowledge of the layout and security arrangements.

Authorities have not yet specified the number of suspects or released additional details pending further analysis of the evidence. No arrests had been reported at the time of publication.

Significance

The theft highlights vulnerabilities faced by jewellery-related businesses that handle high-value items from multiple sources, even when such goods are in transit or undergoing routine processes like purification. Police have urged establishments in the area to review their security protocols, while the investigation into the Kuthuparamba incident continues.
