Six-year-old girl, relative killed in road accident at Tank Bund during birthday outing

A family birthday outing turned tragic in Hyderabad early Sunday when a speeding lorry struck a group crossing the road at Tank Bund, killing a six-year-old girl and her relative. The accident occurred at around 2.30 a.m. as the family was heading towards Hussainsagar to cut a birthday cake, police said.

Outing for a celebration ends in tragedy

Domalguda police inspector Amjad Ali identified the deceased as Sarakshi, 6, and Viswanath (also known as Viswanth), 41. Both were residents of Jonnabanda in Old Alwal. According to the officer, the family had gone out to mark the child’s birthday and had watched a film in Kukatpally before driving to Tank Bund late at night.

“They were accompanied by Viswanath, a colleague and relative of her father, along with his wife and two children,” said the officer.

Sequence of events at Tank Bund

After reaching Tank Bund, the group parked their car and began crossing the road towards Hussainsagar, where they planned to celebrate. “After parking their car, the family members began crossing the road towards Hussainsagar. Viswanath was carrying Sarakshi and had reached the middle of the road, where he stopped to allow vehicles to pass before crossing further,” added the officer.

At that moment, a lorry coming at speed from the Secunderabad direction hit Viswanath and the child.

Victims and immediate aftermath

Police said Sarakshi died on the spot due to the impact. Viswanath suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Gandhi Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
