Bescom awarded ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for information security
Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) has earned the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for its Information Security Management System (ISMS), a recognition that the utility says will strengthen its information security framework and enhance its ability to safeguard critical information and digital systems.
Certification handover in Bengaluru
The ISO/IEC certificate was formally handed over to Karnataka’s Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George in Bengaluru on Wednesday, marking the culmination of a certification process aimed at aligning Bescom’s digital infrastructure with globally recognised information security practices.
Minister underscores cybersecurity priorities
Emphasising the growing importance of cybersecurity in the power sector, Mr. George said: “The ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification is an important step towards strengthening information security and cyber resilience in Bescom. As the power sector increasingly relies on digital systems and technology, protecting critical information and ensuring uninterrupted operations has become essential. This certification demonstrates Bescom’s commitment to adopting globally recognised information security practices and strengthening the security of its digital infrastructure.”
Audit gaps addressed to close certification
Mr. George noted that the department addressed major gaps identified during the assessment, along with audit observations, through the timely implementation and verification of corrective actions. This, he said, enabled the successful closure of the certification audit.
Significance for the utility
According to officials, achieving ISO/IEC 27001:2022 for the ISMS provides a structured framework for managing and mitigating information-security risks across Bescom’s operations, and signals a commitment to continuous improvement in cyber resilience.
