Centre Urges States to Prepare Health Facilities for Heatwave Emergencies

The central government has directed states to assess and enhance the preparedness of their health facilities for managing heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses as summer approaches. Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava emphasized the need for measures such as solar panel installations, reliable electricity for cooling systems, and energy-saving strategies to help health facilities combat rising temperatures. States were also urged to ensure the availability of essential supplies like medications, intravenous fluids, and ice packs. The Ministry advised using rainwater harvesting for self-sufficiency in water and disseminating heatwave guidelines across districts to ensure effective health management.

Puducherry Issues Helplines and Urges Residents to Stay Indoors as ‘Cyclone Fengal’ Brings Heavy Rain to Tamil Nadu

Authorities in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are on high alert as Cyclone Fengal approaches the coast, with landfall expected near Puducherry on Saturday, November 30. The India Meteorological Department has warned of wind speeds up to 90 km/h and heavy rainfall across coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh. Puducherry’s district administration has urged residents to stay indoors, and schools and colleges are closed. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu has prepared relief camps, relocated evacuees, and deployed disaster response teams. A red alert has been issued for the region, with fishermen advised to avoid the sea.
