The government is set to introduce three bills to advance its ‘one nation, one election’ initiative, including two constitutional amendment bills. One bill will align local body elections with Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections, requiring approval from at least 50 percent of the states. Another constitutional amendment aims to enable simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and state Assemblies by amending Article 82A. The third bill will amend laws governing Union territories with legislative assemblies—Puducherry, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir—to synchronize their terms with those of the Lok Sabha. A high-level committee recommended implementing this initiative in two phases, starting with Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections, followed by local body elections within 100 days of the general election.

Haryana Congress Chief Udai Bhan has called for strict action against rebels undermining the party, emphasizing the need to maintain discipline as the state prepares for polls on October 5.

The Kathmandu Valley has experienced significant devastation, with 37 fatalities reported and extensive flooding affecting daily life. National highways remain blocked due to landslides, stranding hundreds of people, while over 20,000 security personnel are engaged in rescue efforts.
