Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the 6.5 km Z-Morh Tunnel in Sonamarg, Jammu and Kashmir, aimed at boosting year-round tourism and improving connectivity. The tunnel will enhance all-weather access between Srinagar and Sonamarg, bypassing landslide-prone areas and ensuring safer travel to the strategically critical Ladakh region. Built at a cost of over Rs 2,700 crore, the project is expected to transform Sonamarg into a year-round destination, promote winter tourism, and support local livelihoods. Additionally, the tunnel will improve defense logistics and contribute to economic growth in the region.
