India Reports First Mpox Case From Rapidly Spreading Clade 1b Variant
India confirmed its first case of mpox linked to the fast-spreading clade 1b variant in a traveler from Kerala. The 38-year-old man, who recently traveled from the UAE, was reported in Malappuram district last week. Manisha Verma, spokesperson for the health ministry, stated that this case is significant as it prompted the WHO to declare mpox a public health emergency for the second time.
