Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, Randeep Hooda said, “We’ve been shown only one side of history. When I started reading about Savarkar and the broader freedom movement, I realized how much has been left out. The armed revolution is barely a paragraph in our history books. Are we to believe that Indians never fought back with weapons?”He added, “Non-violence alone did not bring us independence. Look at the 50–60 countries the British left between 1946 and 1952 — none of them followed non-violence. Gandhi’s contribution was massive — he connected with the people and brought them into the movement — but to say we got freedom only because of that is misleading.”
