A new bill introduced in the United States Congress could spell trouble for international students, particularly those from India, by seeking to end the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program. OPT allows students to stay in the US for up to three years after graduation to gain professional experience, a crucial opportunity for many Indian STEM graduates. With India being the largest source of international students in the US, this proposed change threatens to disrupt career prospects for thousands. Experts warn that if the bill passes, students may face immediate deportation without a chance to transition to another work visa, leaving many scrambling to secure alternative job opportunities or H-1B visa status.
