BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde has issued a defamation notice to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, demanding an apology for their allegations that he was involved in a "cash-for-votes" scandal ahead of the Maharashtra elections. Tawde's legal team has given the Congress leaders an ultimatum to either apologize or face a ₹100 crore lawsuit. The controversy stemmed from accusations by Congress leaders, following claims by Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) leader Hitendra Thakur, who alleged Tawde was distributing ₹5 crore in cash to sway voters in Palghar. Tawde has denied the charges, asserting that his visit to Virar was for an election-related briefing and not for any illicit activity.
