Two men were arrested on Tuesday near Arani in Tiruvannamalai district after one of them slapped a woman sub-inspector during questioning inside a police station, The Hindu reported.
The arrested persons were identified as S. Vasu, 42, of Kil Pallipattu village in Vellore, and his friend B. Kumaraguru, 28, a cab driver. An initial police inquiry found that Vasu is a former Army serviceman who took voluntary retirement a few months ago and returned to his village to take up farming.
Police said the pair, in an inebriated condition, blocked several government buses near the toll plaza at Vallam village on the Chittoor–Cuddalore Road. Bus crew alerted Kannamangalam police, who detained the duo at the spot.
During an inquiry at the station by a team that included Sub-Inspector S. Kavitha, Vasu slapped the officer, according to police. Other personnel overpowered him and a case was registered.
Both men were later lodged at the Central Prison in Vellore. Police said a probe is underway.
