The Telangana government has approved the creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle to establish 37 automated vehicle fitness testing stations across the State, The Hindu reported, citing a government order.
Under the plan, the first phase will install 15 stations — including one at each composite district headquarters and four more within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority limits — at a cost of ₹11.50 crore per site, for a total outlay of ₹172.5 crore, according to the order.
The remaining 22 stations are to be set up in a second phase with an estimated cost of ₹252 crore.
The government order states the SPV will follow a self-financing model, raising funds for the establishment and maintenance of the stations through loans from banks and financial institutions such as HUDCO.
