Telugu Desam Party (TDP) mayoral candidate Kovelamudi Lakshmi Aparna on Wednesday pledged to prioritise a clean drainage system, pothole-free roads, effective garbage management and improved drinking water supply in Guntur if elected, during campaigning in the ongoing urban local body elections, according to The Hindu.
Aparna acknowledged persistent drinking water problems in parts of the city and said ensuring regular corporation tap water supply would be among her primary priorities. She also promised upgrades to damaged roads, specifying development with cement concrete or bituminous topping.
Addressing solid-waste challenges, she noted that plastic waste remains a major issue despite steps to enforce a complete ban on single-use plastics. Aparna said she would move to restrict plastic hoardings and conduct special drives to collect and remove plastic waste from the city.
Thanking Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for selecting her as the party’s mayoral candidate, Aparna said she would strive to deliver “Nani 2.0” in the city’s administration.
Outgoing Mayor Kovelamudi Ravindra assumed office in April 2025 and served for a relatively short period. With the mayoral post reserved for a general-category woman in the current election, Aparna has the opportunity to contest. She said her focus would be on addressing core civic issues and improving sanitation, road infrastructure and drinking water to make Guntur cleaner and more liveable.
