Pakistani FM Stations Halt Airing of Indian Songs Amid Rising Tensions with India

By The Sampadak Express

FM radio stations across Pakistan have ceased airing Indian songs in the wake of escalating tensions with India following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.

The Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) announced the move on Thursday, stating that all member FM stations have stopped broadcasting Indian music with immediate effect. “The Pakistan Broadcasters Association has taken this step in light of the prevailing situation,” said PBA Secretary General Shakeel Masood.

Indian music, including classic hits by legendary artists such as Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, and Mukesh, has long enjoyed popularity among Pakistani listeners, particularly in cities like Lahore where they are frequently featured on FM stations.

Pakistan’s Information Minister, Atta Tarar, praised the decision, calling it a “patriotic gesture” and expressing appreciation for the PBA’s alignment with the national mood. “This move reflects the collective sentiment of our people. In times like these, national unity and shared values are paramount,” Tarar said in a letter to the PBA.

The ban follows a series of strong retaliatory steps taken by India in response to the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region. In addition to suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and downgrading diplomatic ties, India has closed its airspace to Pakistani carriers and shut down the only operational land border at Attari.

The international community has widely condemned the attack and expressed support for India in its fight against terrorism.

The suspension of Indian content on Pakistani airwaves highlights the deepening strain between the two nations as regional tensions continue to mount.
