The prestigious Padma Awards 2025 were announced on the eve of Republic Day, recognizing exceptional individuals across various fields of work. Sharda Sinha, Padma Vibhushan (Posthumously)Among the seven recipients of the Padma Vibhushan this year, Sharda Sinha stands out. She was awarded India’s second-highest civilian honor posthumously. A celebrated folk singer known for her iconic Chhatth songs, Sinha passed away on November 5, 2024, in Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Her contribution to the world of music, particularly in the folk genre, has left an indelible mark, and she will be remembered for her powerful voice and cultural impact.
Padma Bhushan Honorees
The Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award, was conferred on a range of eminent figures, including actors, filmmakers, and musicians. Among the recipients are:
Arijit Singh, one of India’s most beloved contemporary singers, recognized for his immense contribution to the music industry.
Shekhar Kapur, the internationally acclaimed filmmaker, renowned for his work on films like Bandit Queen and Elizabeth.

Achyut Ramchandra Palav – A master in traditional and folk arts.
Ashwini Bhide Deshpande – A classical vocalist known for her distinctive musical talent.
Barry Godfray John – A prominent figure in environmental activism and conservation.
Jaspinder Narula – A famous playback singer recognized for her contribution to the music industry.
Ricky Kej – A Grammy-winning musician, celebrated for his work in environmental music and advocacy.
