NRAI Set to Launch IPL-Style Shooting League in November; Key Details Finalised

By The Sampadak Express

In a landmark move to revolutionize shooting sports in India, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has finalized critical components for the launch of the Shooting League of India (SLI). Scheduled to debut from November 20 to December 2, the franchise-based league will introduce a professional format inspired by the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The NRAI, through an official statement, confirmed the finalization of key elements such as governance structure, league format, player categories, recruitment mechanisms, and prize money distribution. Discussions also covered the branding of SLI, including the logo and agency appointments. The league’s official logo will be unveiled at a special event in New Delhi on June 4.

First-of-its-Kind League in Global Shooting Arena

Speaking on the initiative, NRAI President Kalikesh Singh Deo said, “Blending elite sport with league-style excitement, SLI aims to elevate shooting as a sport and inspire future talent. There is unanimous support and a recognition that the league is heralding new boundaries, barriers and areas for the sport.”

He added that it is the first time such a league has been envisioned across the international shooting community. “A franchise-based format will allow world-class shooters and rising Indian talents to compete side by side, accelerating the sport’s growth both nationally and globally.”

Format and Schedule

The inaugural edition will feature mixed team events in the following categories:

Pistol: 10m, 25m

Rifle: 10m, 50m 3 Position

Shotgun: Trap and Skeet

The league phase will take place from November 21 to 26, with eight teams divided into two groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout rounds.

Player Classification

To ensure a balanced competition, participating shooters will be categorized into four distinct tiers:

Elite Champions

World Elite

National Champions

Junior & Youth Champions

This tier-based system is designed to mix experienced veterans with promising young talent.

Pathbreaking Governance Model

The NRAI board approved a transparent and structured governance framework, paving the way for private investments and adherence to regulatory standards. The model is in line with the federation’s broader vision of professionalizing shooting in India.

The Shooting League of India promises to be a game-changer for the sport, offering fans a new way to engage with shooting while opening fresh opportunities for athletes and stakeholders alike.
