Police Commemoration Day was marked on Wednesday across Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal, Kurnool and Anantapur districts with tributes to personnel who died in the line of duty and calls for rededication to public service. The commemorations and official remarks were reported by The Hindu.
In Nandyal, a memorial parade known as the ‘Smriti Parade’ was held at the district police office, where District Collector Rajakumari Ganiya served as chief guest and received a ceremonial salute. She paid tribute to the martyrs and said the police uniform signifies responsibility, courage, dedication and sacrifice. She noted that personnel often stay away from their families so the public can celebrate festivals in peace, and highlighted the force’s roles beyond maintaining law and order, including curbing drug abuse, tackling cybercrime and protecting vulnerable groups.
At the Anantapur district police headquarters, Range Inspector General Shemushi and District Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh participated in the ceremony and urged the force to draw inspiration from those who laid down their lives. Ms. Shemushi said the police play a pivotal role in the nation’s internal security and added, “It is a position of great responsibility. The police work round-the-clock to maintain law and order and ensure peace in society.”
In Kurnool, Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil led tributes at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial. He honoured 154 police personnel who, according to officials, sacrificed their lives while safeguarding law and order between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026.
