According to Vivekanand Kadam, Chief of the Disaster Management Cell in Palghar, the explosion was caused by a sudden increase in pressure within the boilers. This pressure surge led to the detachment of a distanced pipe from one of the boilers, resulting in a powerful blast and subsequent fire.
The injured victims have been identified as Tufan Kalsim Damor (30), Roshni Praveen Parmar (26), Mula Prema Vasar (27), and two children—Kajal Parmar (3 years old) and Aakash Prem Masar (18 months old). The injured individuals hail from the Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh. Initial reports suggest that some of the injured may not have been factory workers, but rather local residents from nearby houses who were impacted by the explosion and fire.
Local authorities, along with disaster management teams, rushed to the site to control the fire, which had spread rapidly. Emergency responders managed to extinguish the blaze and evacuate the injured from the scene. The victims were immediately transported to a nearby private hospital for initial treatment. Due to the severity of their injuries, four of the critically wounded, including the two children, were transferred to a medical facility in Thane for more specialized care.
Blast at Ordnance Factory in Bhandara District Kills Eight, Injures Seven
In a separate incident, eight workers lost their lives, and seven others were injured in a devastating explosion at an ordnance factory in Bhandara district, located in eastern Maharashtra, on January 24. The blast, which struck a unit within the factory, was so powerful that it completely destroyed the building where it occurred. The impact of the explosion was felt by residents in three nearby villages, who reported the ground shaking from the blast.
The deceased workers have been identified as Chandrashekar Goswami (59), Manoj Meshram (55), Ajay Nagdeve (51), Ankit Barai (20), Laxman Kelwade (38), Abhishek Chaurasia (35), Dharma Rangari (35), and Sanjay Karemore (32). The powerful explosion has left the factory unit in ruins, with the magnitude of the blast highlighting the potential hazards associated with ordnance manufacturing facilities.
Local residents and family members of the deceased have expressed shock and grief over the tragic loss of life. One resident, whose cousin was among the deceased, shared that the blast was so intense that the surrounding villages felt the tremor. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, and rescue operations are ongoing to assess the full extent of the damage.
These two incidents highlight the continuing safety concerns in industrial operations across Maharashtra, as the communities affected by these tragedies continue to cope with the loss and aftermath of these explosions. Local authorities are working to ensure that adequate measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
