Kolkata Gang-Rape Was ‘Planned for Days’, Say Police; Prime Accused Targeted Victim Since Admission

By The Sampadak Express

Kolkata: The horrifying gang-rape of a 24-year-old law student at South Calcutta Law College was a premeditated act, police revealed on Monday. The prime accused, Monojit Mishra, a former student of the college, had allegedly been planning the assault for several days along with two current students Pratim Mukherjee and Zaid Ahmed.

According to officials from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case, the trio meticulously planned the crime, which was carried out on June 25 inside the college premises located in Kolkata’s Kasba area. A fourth accused, who worked as a security guard at the college, has also been arrested.

Police sources stated that Mishra had been targeting the victim since the day she joined the college. “It was not a spontaneous act but a well-orchestrated crime. The accused had been conspiring for days to torture the victim,” said an investigating officer.

Accused Had History of Harassment, Used Videos to Blackmail

The SIT’s investigation has also uncovered a disturbing pattern of behavior. All three main accused reportedly have a history of sexually harassing female students on campus. Shockingly, they allegedly recorded these acts on their mobile phones and later used the footage to blackmail victims.

Kolkata Police have launched a search operation to recover videos from the mobile devices of the accused. Residences of Pratim Mukherjee and Zaid Ahmed were searched on Sunday as part of the investigation. Authorities are also examining whether any video related to the June 25 incident or previous cases was shared or forwarded.“

If any such footage was distributed, we will track down the recipients and take appropriate legal action,” a police official said.

Rejection of Proposal Sparked Crime

Investigators suspect that the gang-rape was triggered after the survivor rejected a romantic proposal from Mishra, leading to the planned assault. The victim filed a formal complaint with the police on June 26, the day after the crime.

The incident has sparked outrage across the city, prompting demands for swift justice and heightened campus safety.
