Kejriwal Urges Slum Dwellers to Protest Demolitions, Slams BJP-Congress as ‘Brother and Sister’

Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Centre and the Congress, urging slum dwellers to rise in protest against ongoing demolition drives. Speaking at a protest rally organised by AAP at Jantar Mantar, Kejriwal called on people to reject both BJP and Congress in upcoming elections, branding the two parties as “brother and sister”.

“Prime Minister Modi promised ‘Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makan’, but the reality is ‘Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Maidan’. These promises are hollow,” Kejriwal said, addressing a large gathering of slum residents.

Criticising the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government, he claimed that the city has been “ruined” over the past five months. “We left behind a functioning Delhi. Today, there are long power cuts, schools are increasing fees, and ministers are busy looting the city,” he alleged.

Kejriwal rallied the slum population to unite and take to the streets. “There are 40 lakh slum dwellers in Delhi. If you all come together, they will have no choice but to stop the demolitions,” he said.

Drawing parallels with the 2011 anti-corruption movement, Kejriwal said, “The Anna movement began at Jantar Mantar and removed Congress from power. Today, from this same place, a new movement will begin that will shake BJP’s rule.”

He further urged the people not to trust either the BJP or the Congress, saying, “When Congress was in power, there were power outages and arbitrary school fee hikes. For 10 years, AAP prevented these issues. Now, under BJP rule, the same problems have returned.”

Kejriwal also accused the BJP of politically targeting AAP leaders through FIRs. “They’ve filed cases against Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain and Saurabh Bharadwaj. Instead of misusing agencies, they should focus on public welfare,” he said.

Notably, Sisodia and Jain are under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) for alleged irregularities in classroom construction. Recently, the ACB also registered an FIR against Bharadwaj and Jain over delays in hospital infrastructure projects.

Kejriwal’s fiery address marks a renewed political push by AAP against demolition drives and the current BJP-led governance in Delhi.
