Indian Railways Fare Hike From July 1: Check New Rates for Sleeper, AC, and First Class Tickets

The Ministry of Railways has announced a revised fare structure for passenger trains, effective 1 July 2025, marking the first significant fare adjustment in recent years. The move is aimed at simplifying the fare system and ensuring the financial sustainability of rail services.

According to the updated Passenger Fare Table released by the Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA), fares for multiple travel classes including Ordinary, Mail/Express, and AC categories will see a marginal hike.

Fare Hike Breakdown by Category

Ordinary Non-AC Classes (Non-Suburban Trains)

Second Class:

No hike for journeys up to 500 km.

Rs. 5 increase for 501–1500 km

Rs. 10 increase for 1501–2500 km

Rs. 15 increase for 2501–3000 km

Beyond that, the fare will rise by 0.5 paisa per km.

Sleeper Class: Increased by 0.5 paisa per km

First Class: Increased by 0.5 paisa per km

Mail/Express Trains (Non-AC)

Second Class, Sleeper, and First Class:

Fare hiked by 1 paisa per km

AC Classes (Mail/Express Trains)

Applicable to:

AC Chair Car

AC 3-Tier / 3-Tier Economy

AC 2-Tier

AC First / Executive Class / Executive Anubhuti

All these classes will see a fare increase of 2 paisa per km.

Premium Trains Included in the Revision

The revised fare structure will also apply to premium and special trains, including:

Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto

Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar

Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan

Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express

AC Vistadome and Anubhuti coaches

What Stays Unchanged

Suburban single-journey tickets and season tickets (suburban and non-suburban): No change

Reservation fees, superfast surcharge, GST, and other supplementary charges: No change

Fare rounding rules: Remain unchanged

Effective Date and Ticketing Guidelines

1. The new fares will apply to tickets booked on or after 1 July 2025.

2. Tickets issued before this date will remain valid without any adjustment.

3. All ticketing systems are being updated, and zonal railways have been instructed to revise fare displays at stations.

4. Passengers are advised to check the latest fare while booking and plan accordingly.
