Indian defence forces successfully thwarted a coordinated missile and drone attack launched by Pakistan on three military installations located near the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir. The targeted bases included those in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur.
According to an official statement from the Integrated Defence Staff, the threats were swiftly neutralised using a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic measures in adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). “There were no casualties or material damage in the attempted strike,” the defence ministry confirmed.
The Indian armed forces remained on high alert following the attack, ensuring complete neutralisation of the incoming threats. “Military Stations of Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur were targeted using missiles and drones of Pakistani origin. The Indian Armed Forces responded promptly and effectively,” the ministry added.
Wider Impact: Blackouts in Northern States
Following the attempted strike, precautionary blackouts were observed in several districts across Jammu, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Power outages were reported in areas including Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, and regions in Jammu such as Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia. The disruptions followed loud explosions heard by locals, raising fears of further escalation.
Air Defence Units intercepted eight missiles aimed at various locations along the border, preventing any potential damage.
Residents were urged to stay indoors and keep lights off as a safety measure amid ongoing security operations.
Background: Operation Sindoor and Rising Tensions
The attempted missile drone assault comes just a day after India conducted Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure across the border in Pakistan. The retaliatory strikes are seen as part of a broader response to recent escalations along the Line of Control.
Officials reiterated India’s readiness to defend its sovereignty and ensure public safety, emphasizing that any threat to national security will be met with a firm and immediate response.
