Himachal Pradesh: 6 Killed, 5 Injured in Landslide Near Manikaran Gurudwara in Kullu

By The Sampadak Express

A tragic landslide, accompanied by a fallen tree, claimed the lives of six people and injured five others near Gurdwara Manikaran Sahib in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, on Sunday. The incident occurred when a tree, uprooted by a storm and landslide on the mountain opposite the Gurudwara, fell onto parked vehicles on the road.

According to Ashwani Kumar, Additional District Magistrate of Kullu, “Six people died, and five were injured after trees were uprooted near the Manikaran Gurudwara parking. Police and rescue teams have shifted the injured to the local community hospital at Jari.”

Kullu MLA Sunder Singh Thakur confirmed the incident, stating, “The tree uprooted near Manikaran Gurudwara, causing the fatalities. The bodies are being brought to the hospital, and the injured are also being transferred for treatment. A police team and the administration are on-site.”

The five injured individuals were immediately transported to Jari Hospital for medical treatment. Medical teams, along with police and revenue officials, are currently on the ground, coordinating rescue and relief operations.

Kullu’s Sub Divisional Magistrate, Vikas Shukla, reassured the public, stating that all necessary efforts are being made to assist the victims and provide immediate relief.

In the aftermath, Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his deep condolences and directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the victims and their families. He further instructed officials to ensure the best medical treatment for those injured.

The tragic event comes just weeks after heavy rainfall and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh caused widespread disruption, triggering landslides and damaging infrastructure. Earlier in the month, landslides triggered by incessant rains and cloudbursts caused significant damage in Kangra district, where several vehicles were damaged, and twelve houses were endangered.

Additionally, a missing person near the Shiva Hydropower project in Palampur prompted the launch of a search operation, as authorities work to locate the individual.

Relief and restoration efforts are ongoing, with affected families being relocated to safer areas.
