The death toll in the tragic building collapse in Delhi’s Mustafabad area early Saturday morning has risen to 11, as rescue operations continued for over 12 hours. The four-storey building crumbled around 2:39 am, trapping 22 people beneath the debris.

Among the deceased is the building’s 60-year-old landlord, Tehsin, along with eight members of a single family. The victims include three women and four children. Authorities have also confirmed that 11 others sustained injuries of varying severity.

According to officials, six of the injured have been discharged after treatment, while five are still receiving medical care.

Emergency response teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services (DFS), Delhi Police, and other local volunteers worked tirelessly to rescue those trapped. A call was received at 2:50 am reporting the collapse, and rescue teams were dispatched immediately.

Divisional Fire Officer Rajendra Atwal confirmed that the entire structure had collapsed and several people were stuck under the rubble. “Our teams along with NDRF are carrying out rescue operations,” he said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East District) Sandeep Lamba said efforts continued throughout the day to locate and assist survivors.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and assured the public that a probe into the incident has been initiated. “I express my deepest condolences to those who lost their lives in this unfortunate accident. May God grant peace to the departed souls and strength to the grieving families,” she stated.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collapse, with teams from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), NDRF, DFS, and other agencies involved in the operation.
