Ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, both the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and opposition BJP are drawing inspiration from the recent blockbuster Pushpa 2 to strengthen their political messaging. The two parties have released campaign posters featuring iconic dialogues from the film to appeal to voters.
On Saturday, AAP unveiled a poster with the bold slogan “Kejriwal Jhukega Nahi,” mirroring a popular dialogue from Pushpa 2. The poster features Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as the central figure, posing with the party’s broom symbol slung over his shoulder. The slogan “4th Term Coming Soon” is prominently displayed, signaling the party’s ambitions to retain power after their dominant victories in the 2013, 2015, and 2020 Delhi Assembly elections.
In response, the BJP launched its own Pushpa 2-inspired poster on Monday, featuring Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva positioned as the movie’s protagonist, Pushpa, sitting on a throne. The poster’s headline reads “Bhrashtachariyon Ko Khatam Karenge” (We will finish the corrupt), directly targeting AAP’s alleged corruption.
The AAP is seeking to secure a fourth consecutive term in power, following a decisive win in 2020 when the party clinched 62 out of the 70 Assembly seats. The party has focused its campaign on criticizing the BJP-led central government, particularly highlighting issues of law and order. Kejriwal has pointed to increasing incidents of extortion and gun violence, asserting that had the Delhi Police been under his control, the situation would have been different. “Just as I improved schools, hospitals, and electricity, I would have fixed law and order too,” he stated during a padyatra on Sunday.
On the other hand, the BJP has used its campaign to accuse AAP of corruption and mismanagement. The opposition party has also blamed the AAP for the city’s worsening pollution levels. Previously, the BJP had coined the slogan “Ab Nahi Sahenge, Badal Kar Rahenge” (Won’t tolerate anymore, we’ll bring the change), aiming to end AAP’s rule in Delhi.
