4 Held in NEET Admission Scam; Dummy Candidates, ₹30 Lakh per Seat Involved

By The Sampadak Express

In a major crackdown ahead of the NEET UG 2025 exam, the Bhubaneswar Special Crime Unit has arrested four members of an interstate gang for allegedly duping medical aspirants by promising them college admissions in exchange for hefty sums of money.

Commissioner of Police S.D. Singh confirmed the arrests on Saturday, stating that the gang was involved in collecting ₹20–30 lakh per candidate under the pretext of securing MBBS seats. Two of the arrested individuals hail from Odisha, while the others are from Jharkhand and Bihar.

The accused have been identified as Priyadarshi Kumar (Jharkhand), Arvind Kumar (Bihar), Sunil Samantray, and Rudra Narayan Behera (both from Odisha).

According to the police, the gang used local scouts to gather NEET aspirants’ personal details, including Aadhaar cards, which were then used to facilitate registration. After obtaining admit cards, the documents were allegedly handed over to operatives in Bihar, where proxy candidates were prepared to take the exam in place of the actual aspirants.”

The gang had planned to deploy dummy candidates by manipulating admit card data,” said Commissioner Singh.

The arrests come just a day before the NEET UG 2025 examination, scheduled for Sunday from 2 pm to 5 pm. Investigations are ongoing to trace the full extent of the racket and identify other candidates or operatives involved.
