Three relatives of a Greater Noida man were arrested on Sunday in connection with the deaths of him, his wife and their three children, whose bodies were found at their home in Nagla Padam village near Rabupura on Saturday morning, police said. The case has been registered under Section 108 (abetment to suicide) of the BNS based on a complaint by the woman’s brother, according to details reported by The Hindu.
Rabupura Station House Officer Sujeet Upadhyay said the accused are the deceased man’s elder sister Sunita (45), brother-in-law Shekhar alias Chandrashekhar (50) and younger sister Sapna (32). They were taken into custody after a relative lodged a complaint alleging their role in the deaths.
Police identified the deceased as Mahesh (37), his wife Lalita (35), their daughter Mishti (7), and sons Sakshat (11) and Riyansh (3). Officers said Mahesh had recorded a voice note on his mobile phone before his death, allegedly naming the three arrested relatives as responsible.
Preliminary information gathered from neighbours and relatives suggested a family property dispute may have preceded the incident. Police said Sunita had allegedly influenced their mother, Chandrawati, to transfer into her name the house where Mahesh lived with his mother, and that Mahesh was reportedly distressed after learning of the transfer.
Investigators said CCTV camera footage from around the house did not show any outsider entering the premises. The post-mortems, which were videographed, indicated signs of poisoning, officers said. Viscera samples have been sent for forensic analysis, and the exact cause of death will be determined after the report is received.
Teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory and the Food Safety Department were called to the house to assist the investigation. Initial suspicion had pointed to possible food poisoning, with reports suggesting the family ate noodles before their deaths, police noted.
Officers said Shekhar and Sunita live in Shalimar Bagh in Delhi, while Sapna resides in Khera Kalan. The three are being questioned.
Police said further action will be taken based on the forensic findings and the ongoing inquiry into the alleged property dispute and the circumstances leading to the deaths.
