17-Year-Old JEE Aspirant Commits Suicide in Kota, Fourth Case in 18 Days

Kota – A devastating incident has shaken the city’s education hub, as a 17-year-old student, Manan Jain, took his own life just four days before his JEE Mains exam. This tragic event marks the fourth student suicide in Kota this month, sparking concerns about the pressure and stress faced by students in the city’s competitive academic environment.

Manan, a Class 12 student from Bundi district, was found hanging from a steel angle of a window in his room at his maternal grandmother’s house in Kota. He had been studying with his cousin until late at night and was discovered dead in the morning. The reason behind his suicide is still unknown, according to the police.

Jawahar Nagar Police Station Officer Ram Laxman Gurjar stated that Manan was living with his maternal grandmother’s family in Kota and was preparing for JEE-Main. He and his cousin, who is his aunt’s son, studied together from 11 pm to midnight in separate rooms on the upper floor. The next morning, the cousin discovered Manan’s body.

Manan’s maternal uncle revealed that the young student had been studying in Kota for the past three years and was a bright and dedicated student. His father, Manish Jain, is a businessman, and Manan was their only child. The family has refused to conduct a post-mortem examination.

This incident is the fourth student suicide case in Kota in just 17 days of this year. On Friday, an 18-year-old coaching student from Odisha was found dead in his PG room, allegedly by suicide. Last week, two students preparing for JEE died by suicide in separate incidents, with one from Haryana and the other from Madhya Pradesh. No suicide notes were found in any of these cases.

January 8: A 20-year-old JEE aspirant, Abhishek, from Madhya Pradesh, died by suicide in his PG room.

January 7: A 19-year-old JEE aspirant, Neeraj, from Haryana, was found hanging in his hostel room.

The recurring incidents of student suicides in Kota have raised concerns about the city’s academic pressure and the need for support systems to help students cope with stress and anxiety.
