Officials in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai and Chittoor districts marked Police Commemoration Day on Wednesday by paying homage to personnel who died in the line of duty and pledging support for their families, according to The Hindu.

In Sri Sathya Sai district, the main function was held at the District Police under the supervision of Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar. Additional District Judge Venkateswara Rao, District Collector A. Shyam Prasad, Joint Collector Mourya Bhardwaj and Puttaparthi Junior Civil Judge Mujeeb Paspal attended. As part of the observance, Collector Shyam Prasad offered financial assistance to the kin of a police martyr in Puttaparthi.

SP Satish Kumar recalled that Police Commemoration Day has been observed annually since October 21, 1959, when 10 Central Reserve Police Force personnel were killed in Ladakh during a clash with Chinese troops. He said the department would not abandon the families of fallen personnel and would extend support through the police welfare fund.

Collector Shyam Prasad said that while soldiers guard the borders, police safeguard internal security and maintain public order. He noted that the district has recorded declines this year in road accidents, drug-related cases and crimes against women compared to last year, which he attributed to effective policing, and he commended the force for its work.

In Chittoor, Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi led tributes at the Armed Reserve parade grounds. He said police personnel work selflessly round-the-clock and that their sacrifices underpin peace in society, urging staff to draw inspiration from the courage and discipline of the martyrs.
