AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday questioned the silence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK president C. Joseph Vijay over the arrest of a TVK functionary in Nagapattinam in connection with what has been described as one of the biggest narcotics seizures in the State’s coastal region in recent years, according to The Hindu.
In a social media post, Mr. Palaniswami said he was referring to an official release from the Union Ministry of Finance about the seizure. He alleged that the Chief Minister had remained silent despite the case involving a functionary of his party.
“In the erstwhile regime, the seizure of pseudoephederine in the Jaffer Sadiq case had sent shockwaves among the people. In this case involving TVK party functionary Bhoopalan, fully processed meth crystals, weighing around 137 kg and costing about ₹400 crore, have been seized,” Mr. Palaniswami said.
He also underscored that the seizure was made not by the State police but by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, an agency under the Union government. He added that the government under Mr. Vijay should be ashamed of the incident.
